Editorial: Audit finds lack of accountability for Wisconsin tax breaks

The Legislative Audit Bureau reviewed economic development grants, loans and administration for eight Wisconsin agencies from 2007 to 2011. The audit found the agencies spent $226.5 million during the 2009-11 biennium but couldn’t provide auditors with results for 22 of the 123 programs active during that time, The Associated Press reported, despite being required to by a 2007 state law.

What’s more disturbing is the Commerce Department, the state’s former economic development agency, could not supply results for 15 of its 55 programs.
